Local Exmoor

The village of Porlock is about 5 miles from Poocks Cottage. It is a traditional Exmoor village and has three pubs, two grocery shops, a traditional local butcher, Post Office, chemist, cash machine, hardware shop, visitor centre and a range of independent restaurants, shops and tea rooms.

Porlock Weir is a nice 90 minute walk from the cottage which takes you past ancient Culbone church on the South West Coast Path, to have a pub lunch by the sea.

Lynmouth and Lynton are 7 miles in the opposite direction. They have a good selection of cafes and restaurants, and the gloriously quirky Lynton cinema. You can walk to Watermeet from Lynmouth and the Valley of the Rocks from Lynton.

Further afield

There are good pubs and walking at Withypool and Winsford.

Dulverton has lots of independent shop, cafes and restaurants as well as a second hand book shop that is always worth a visit.
